From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have proactively deployed all recommended measures to protect the health and well-being of our employees, customers, suppliers and communities. As such, we have implemented several rigorous protocols in all our operations across the continent; and we are closely monitoring all markets according to the guidance provided by the authorities in each country. To help ensure all stakeholder’s well-being, Dangote Cement follows the guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO).
The COVID-19 pandemic implications from a business standpoint are different from country to country. We have activated our business continuity management processes in line with the Group policy. However, our manufacturing, sales and delivery operations are being managed to the extent possible in line with the Group, extant government and WHO guidelines. We continue to provide superior services and deliver high quality products to our customers.
In addition, we are proactively monitoring key dimensions of our operations in order to prevent and mitigate adverse effect of the pandemic on the workforce as well as prevent negative financial impacts. We are closely controlling our capital expenses, working capital needs and fixed costs to maintain strong and resilient cash positions. To maintain an optimal capital structure, we constantly consider appropriate options – such as accessing the debt capital market in Nigeria.
While most of our businesses remain fully operational and continue to supply customers; in a limited number of markets – such as South Africa – we have been required to close operations in order to comply with Government regulations. In such circumstances, we deploy every effort to work with customers in order to ensure business continuity while ensuring full compliance with local regulations.
As Africa’s largest cement manufacturer, we lead by example and have put in place voluntarily key precautionary measures as a response to the evolving public health crisis:
- All employees at Dangote Cement offices and factories have implemented workplace control measures in protection against the spread of COVID-19 which are intended to reduce work related risk and ensure business continuity. These measures include the use of sanitizers, temperature checks, social distancing, smart working and so-on. We have also enforced a strict travel restriction for all our staff.
- Visitors are not permitted at our offices and factories until further notice. We are encouraging virtual meetings and other measures of working remotely to minimise physical contact and potential for disease transmission.
- We have instituted a Business Continuity Framework, and an Emergency Preparedness and Response Plan to ensure that our operations and our supply chains are not hindered.
- To reduce the impact of the Coronavirus outbreak, we engage with all company’s stakeholders to continue to adhere to the necessary protective measures – wash your hands thoroughly or use alcohol-based hand sanitizers, practice good personal hygiene, maintain social distancing, stay informed and follow the advice given by WHO.
We oblige you to comply with the health authorities recommendations and regulations to keep you and your families healthy and safe.
